The Greatest Commandment

The Words of Jesus

This is probably the most important graphic in any of the models. If nothing else is gained by understanding these models, understanding one’s “position” and “posture” are among the most important.

The arrows represent all the parts of True Self: heart, soul, mind, and strength. The definitions used to describe heart, soul, mind, and strength are high level, meaning that there can be other ways of describing them as well. Regardless of the words used, they are meant to include everything about us. Since Jesus used these four words, we’re going to categorize everything about us in those four words.

We begin with the words of Jesus. In Mark 12:30, he revealed what he called The Greatest Commandment.

“Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.” Mark 12:30, NIV

Scripture reveals that God is three distinct beings in One. They include God the Father, God the Son (Jesus Christ) and God the Holy Spirit. Each has a distinct role in our lives. We are called to Love God. Focus on Him and connection to Him are the most important actions we can take.
